Over the years there has been many who have turned out for both The Shaymen and Tranmere Rovers.
One of those is Shaun Garnett who played for Town in 2002. He also played for Swansea City back in 1996 and spent six fruitful years at Oldham, making more than 100 league appearances for the Latics. He played three times at Wembley with Tranmere.
Wayne Allison started his career in West Yorkshire but his career took him far and wide across the country, reaching the cup semi-final with Sheffield United in the early 2000s, he was notably cup-tied for Tranmere’s 2000 League Cup final.
Brian Westlake scored the most of the 24 for the Shaymen, his 27 goals in 100 games in the mid 1960s suggests he was a prolific striker, it didn’t quite work out in Merseyside for him, just three goals in 14 games between 1966/67.
John Bramhall went the opposite way, he started his senior career at Rovers and ended up moving to Halifax via a fruitful spell at Bury. He is now assistant chief executive at the Professional Football Association.
A mention must go to Steve Cooper. Cooper played seven times in his early career on loan from Birmingham City and represented Tranmere on 32 occasions in the early 90’s, Cooper unfortunately died in 2004 aged just 39.
A name familiar to Bradford City fans will be David Jackson. He was the brother of Peter Jackson, who also played for Bradford. Twin David went to Prenton Park upon leaving Valley Parade in 1961, but after two years joined Halifax in the twilight of his career, making 66 league appearances for the Shaymen.
Ex-Manchester United right-back Tommy O’Neill featured for the two, first Tranmere, scoring just under a goal in every seven games for the club, before finishing his career at Halifax, scoring just twice.
Others to have played for both sides in recent years include Lois Maynard and Liam Hogan.
