This Saturday, FC Halifax Town will look to return too winning ways against high-flying Tranmere Rovers when the Merseyside’s visit The Shay.
Jamie Fullarton’s men have extinguished any threat of relegation and will be hoping they can push on and finish as high as possible in the league standings.
Hopefully for the Yorkshiremen that can begin this weekend against Micky Mellon’s play-off hopefuls. One player who could make a difference is James Norwood.
Norwood struck for the 18th and 19th time this weekend as Rovers overcame Aldershot at Prenton Park to keep pressure on runaway leaders, Macclesfield Town.
The Eastbourne-born frontman is a familiar foe to Halifax fans, scoring twice in October’s 2-0 win despite only playing the first 25 minutes of the match.
Despite a youth career that led Norwood to clubs such as Brighton and Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace, his first club was his hometown club, Eastbourne Borough.
In 2009, a then 19-year-old Norwood joined then League One club, Exeter City on trial prior to the 2009/10 season, and was thus handed a contract by Paul Tisdale.
Tisdale earmarked the qualities of him and tipped him for a bright future. However, just four appearances in the league over two seasons meant that he was looking for regular football and he joined Forest Green Rovers, a club whom he had joined on loan during his days at St. James’ Park.
He would embark on a four-year stay at Forest Green, where he and his team regularly fought for a promotion place from the fifth-tier, and after leaving in 2015, with 48 league goals in 149 appearances, Norwood joined his current club.
His pedigree in the National League speaks for itself, he is the third highest goal scorer in the league and even has four goals in seven games for England’s ‘C’ team, which accounts for players in the National League and below.
Norwood, along with strike partner, Andy Cook, will be hoping their goals can fire them to a play-off position and beyond, to return to league football after an absence of three years.
