FC Halifax Townโ€™s U19 manager Matt Trueman says he is delighted with his teamโ€™s 3-1 win over Hastings United, that puts them through to the final of the National League Alliance League Cup.

โ€œIt was a great performance from the lads, they showed a lot of commitment, desire and experience, they learnt from past games, and defensively we were really good,โ€ Trueman said to Shaymen TV at full-time.

โ€œWe made it hard for Hastings, we did our homework on them, we knew they were strong on set places, we got a bit lucky at times, but we defended well, put our bodies on the line and in possession we were really good.โ€

Striker James Sunderland opened the scoring, adding to his impressive tally for the season.

โ€œWe knew that they would try to play a bit, and we thought if we press them and cause them problems we could get that goal cushion which would settle us down, and we did that, James took his goal well and showed composure.โ€

The game saw two red cards and an altercation with the Hastings manager, who was subsequently sent to the stands, but the young Shaymen kept their cool to see out the victory.

โ€œLast year we were in a similar sort of position and we got beat, so I think them players learnt from that, learnt do to deal with their emotions, we asked for them to be composed both on the ball and controlling the emotions and they did that well today.โ€

โ€œThey are a good group of players for this level, so they deserve to be in the final, and to give them a chance at winning something this year, and hopefully we can perform like we have today and win the cupโ€
โ€œThe gaffer has showed interest in the youth team and heโ€™s had a chat with them today, all that experience from the gaffer is going to help our lads, and keep them on their toes, especially with the Chairman and first team manager watching.โ€

The team now look forward to seeing who they face in the final.

โ€œWe have a dayโ€™s rest then see who we have in the next round and then go back to work and get on the training pitch.โ€
