Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Anyone who follows these (and other notes in this publication) will undoubtedly struggle to find any meaningful continuation involved of late. With the numerous postponements suffered, I am honestly at a loss as to what to include making any sense of it all, but I will of course give it a shot.
Although it is only two weeks until our final scheduled home match, we still have three Supporters Club matters to sort out. For about the sixth time, I will give a “final reminder” that our annual sponsored fixture takes place on Tuesday night at the Sutton United fixture. If you would like to “add one in” even at this late stage, please talk to any Committee member today. The bucket collection at this match will be for a charitable concern, which fits in well as most of us will be in the hospitality area at the time.
We are still selling tickets for our End of Season raffle, which will be drawn at the (probably) last home game against Tranmere Rovers. Our sales people should be in attendance somewhere today, so please give willingly should you be approached.
The third issue which needs addressing is the vote for the Player of the Season award, and this will be held at one of the fast-approaching remaining home games, depending on the rescheduling. The vote is open to all supporters, members or not, simply because we like to canvass the greatest number of fans possible.
Finally, on behalf of both the Supporters Club Committee and the FC Halifax Town Club, I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late Ken Hirst, a steadfast Town supporter and an attendee here at the Shay since 1930.
Ken latterly used to watch games from one of the hospitality boxes in the East Stand, where he would regularly reminisce over players he had watched in his youth including names such as Valentine, Dixon, Tunstall and Barkas. He was even present in the huge crowd at the FA Cup tie against Luton in 1933 on a snow covered pitch! After suffering health issues over a number of years, he leaves four daughters and six grandchildren and will be sadly missed by all.
