FC Halifax Town captain Matty Brown admits the sideโ€™s 2-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Fylde is a โ€˜tough one to takeโ€™.

The Good Friday loss at Mill Farm was the first since manager Jamie Fullarton took control of the Shaymen.

Goals from Jonny Smith and James Hardy less than 10 minutes after the restart ensured all 3 points belonged to the Coasters.

On balance, Brown admitted the home side deserved the win.

โ€˜They probably deserved to win on overall play,โ€™ he said.

โ€˜Theyโ€™ve had the better of the chances and the better of the play in the game probably, but they havenโ€™t really carved us open for a goal.

โ€˜We feel like we gifted them cheap goals today, but we werenโ€™t at the races ourselves with our normal game plan.

โ€˜Itโ€™s one of them, youโ€™ve just got to take it on the chin and move on.โ€™

Despite the score line, it was a game that could have easily ended 0-0, with both sides looking sloppy on the ball at times.

โ€˜I think at times both teams turned the ball over cheaply,โ€™ Brown explained.

โ€˜I donโ€™t know if it was to do with the pitch or what.

โ€˜Itโ€™s going to happen, weโ€™re not perfect, weโ€™re not robots, weโ€™re going to have off days.

โ€˜In the second half they passed it a lot better than us and fair play to them they had the better of the play.’

The result saw Halifaxโ€™s 6 match unbeaten streak concluded.

But Brown, despite the loss, remains upbeat about his teamโ€™s chances of remaining in the Vanarama National League.

โ€˜Weโ€™ve had a good spell,โ€™ the defender said.

โ€˜Weโ€™ve put ourselves in a good position to maintain our safety in this league, but we need to get a win as soon as possible.

โ€˜We donโ€™t want that gap getting any closer so weโ€™re looking to go into the game on Monday and put our wrongs right and get all 3 points.โ€™

One blow for the visitors today was the loss of second top goal scorer Matty Kosylo, who had to be replaced after picking up a knock in the first 45 minutes.

Despite some good news from the medical staff, the Liverpool-born player maintains that it is up to the other players in the squad to perform despite the wingerโ€™s potential absence.

‘Itโ€™s a massive blow,โ€™ Brown added.

โ€˜I donโ€™t know exactly what heโ€™s done.

โ€˜I think heโ€™s had the all clear from the doctor here who said itโ€™s nothing serious.

โ€˜Heโ€™s a creative player, heโ€™s been great for us this season so weโ€™re going to miss him, but weโ€™ve just got to roll our sleeves up and get the job done ourselves.โ€™
