Solihull Moors: We Were Looking To Win

FC Halifax Town manager, Jamie Fullarton, had plenty of positive comments to make about his sides performance in their 0-0 draw with Solihull Moors.

Both sides had plenty of chances during the game and it was definitely not a boring goalless draw at the MBI Shay Stadium. Mike Fondop-Talom had two massive chances for the home side, while Sam Johnson was the hero in keeping the midlands side at bay and his 15^th clean sheet of the season. Fullarton commented on the excitement of the match.

“If you’ve seen the game and seen the result, I don’t think it is a classic 0-0 that you would expect. Obviously from our point of view, throughout the game we were looking to win it and I don’t think there was any doubt. We had a game plan which would get us into a position to win the game and we followed that. On numerous occasions today, we had those opportunities. Of course, we have to do better when we create these chances, but I think the reaction of the fans and the general feel about the place, it was a good game to watch.”

As mentioned, it wasn’t your classic 0-0 and Fondop-Talom did have two golden opportunities to break the deadlock. However, the manager who has now spent around a month in charge at the club is pleased that the man on loan from Guiseley is getting into these scoring positions and creating chances.

“It is important that when we create these chances we do take them because they are defining moment in the match. However, when you look at the chances for Mike and have a balanced view, I would be worried if we were not creating these chances. The movement and link up of that ‘front four’ as we call it, is creating these chances, so I would be more worried if we weren’t creating the chances. The fact that we are still getting into these positions even late on in the game, with counter attacks that epitomize the way we play and how we want to go forward, I hope the fans here today appreciate the impact that Mike and the other attackers had.”

“The fact that we were still trying to attack in the 85^th minute just shows what I’m trying to do. We will try and win every single game we play.”

Solihull Moors were a very good match for The Shaymen, the team who currently find themselves in the relegation zone showed plenty of fight and determination to earn a point away at the MBI Shay Stadium. Fullarton credited Mark Yates’ side today.

“We knew what Solihull Moors were going to come here and be like. Their position in the league means that they are fighting and they’ve spent quite a lot of money and been creative with bring new players in to boost their chances of survival. They certainly didn’t disappoint.”

Sam Johnson put in a sublime man of the match performance today keeping his clean sheet intact late on Fullarton mentioned the importance of Johnson and how it shows how well the team are working together.

“I think Sam highlights how the group together are working and when he was called upon today, which always happens in every game, then he responded as he did.”

Jacob Hanson made his debut for the club today but it was cut short through injury. When the Bradford loanee went off Sam Graham came on to replace him for his first minutes for the club. The 17-year old is on loan from Sheffield United and Fullarton was impressed.

“When we talk about recruitment and bringing players in, they’ve got to add value and create that competition. Sam, I know very well over the last 18 months and a few football league clubs wanted him on loan in January. So fortunately, he could come in with us and there is no doubt he will contribute as will Jacob Hanson.”

FC Halifax Town and Jamie Fullarton travel to AFC Fylde on good Friday in less than a week’s time. With Fylde being unable to score last time out against Dagenham and Redbridge Fullarton says his side always have a chance.

“When players are applying themselves, and have the intent to stick to a game plan and express themselves, as they have done since I’ve arrived we are always in with a chance. We stick together, stay together and I think that’s where we have been throughout. This we will be no different Friday and we are going to go there to win.”
