FC Halifax Town return to the MBi Shay Stadium this weekend, as high-flying Sutton United make the long journey north to West Yorkshire.
Jamie Fullarton’s Shaymen will be looking to continue the positive run seen over the past two games. A win and a draw, including two clean sheets, brings some new found confidence to the side as they prepare to face a difficult Sutton side.
In this section, we take a look at what has been happening around the Vanarama National League this week, starting with last weekend’s opponents, Eastleigh FC.
The Spitfires have announced that they are extending the loan of midfielder Ryan Broom, who initially joined on a one month loan deal in January.
Broom, who is currently on the books at SkyBet League One side Bristol Rovers, has made five appearances for the south-coast side so far, scoring three goals in the process. He was an unused substitute in the game against the Shaymen, which ended in a goalless draw.
Speaking to the official club website, Broom fully believes that the Spitfires can turn their poor run of form around: “I’m really pleased to have signed for another month and I’m looking forward to the upcoming games. Hopefully, as a team we can have a couple of positives results.
“It’s not been a perfect month, but you get those spells in football, and I’ve got the belief we can turn it around.”
Elsewhere, Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders says he is lost for words, after his side extended their winless run further following a 3-2 defeat to Tranmere Rovers at the weekend.
The Stones have not won in the league since a 1-0 victory over Torquay United back in November, on a run that has seen seven defeats from their last eight outings. They currently sit five points above the drop zone in eighteenth, one place below the Shaymen in seventeenth.
Speaking to Kent Online, Saunders said that despite the disappointing run, his side have remained competitive in the games that they have lost: “I’m a bit lost for words. That’s been us on this run, to be honest. We’ve been in games – we’ve not been out of them.
“I don’t want to say it’s not going for us because I don’t want to blame it all on luck as it’s been on a long run but it’s hard to take.”
And finally, the National League have drawn up a list of the best strike partnerships across the three leagues this week, with this weekend’s visitors Sutton being one of the clubs representing our league.
The partnership of Tommy Wright and Craig Dundas has produced eighteen goals so far this campaign, with Dundas having his best season in the division. The U’s sit third on the list, behind Tranmere’s James Norwood and Andy Cook on 27 goals, and AFC Fylde’s Danny Rowe and Jack Muldoon who also have 27 between them.
Unfortunately, there was no place on the list for Town’s Tom Denton and Matty Kosylo, although there is plenty of time to change that between now and the end of the season.
