FC Halifax Town manager Jamie Fullarton was very happy with an ‘important’ point away at Eastleigh as his side played out to a 0-0 draw with the Spitfires.
It was the first game with Fullarton in dugout and the scot got off to an unbeaten start following on from the victory in mid-week against Hartlepool United.
“Obviously delighted,” Said a jubilant Jamie Fullarton, speaking to FCHT Media’s Ben Armitage, following the game.
“It also helps getting a result away from home and it is a follow up from Tuesday night when I was fortunate enough to be involved. So again, all credit to the players today.”
The former Notts County manager spoke about his side’s attitude to grind out the result that was needed at a very tough place to go.
“When you come away from home to such a physical side, some of their players were 6ft 2. They played very direct and we showed our attitude in abundance to deal with that today.” he said.
On top of a good defensive performance from his side, Fullarton was also very pleased with the chances that Town were able to create and noted Kosylo and Fondop’s chances which in his eyes were ‘the best’ chances of the game.
“It was not only standing up to the physical pressure today which I call blind pressure, we also played from that which I felt resulted in us having the two best chances of the game. Matty Kosylo and Mike Fondop.”
Speaking more about the performance the 41-year old was impressed that Halifax did not come under any defensive pressure and were never exposed by a strong Eastleigh side.
“I think what you need to consider is, the type of game and how it panned out. We did not really come under any defensive pressure from that which is something we can take forward into the next game.” Fullarton said.
“We were not exposed at all, which is great credit to the players. We worked on it this week, trying to stay in the game at all times.” he added.
The former midfielder admitted that he had worked on ‘trying to stay’ in the game with the squad in training this week and the team followed up with the plan.
“When you stay in the game like we did today from our defensive shape, it gives us the opportunity to not only get a point but the three points also.”
With a small injury list now building up, Cliff Moyo pulled out of the squad late last night with a reported injury to his quad.
The manager however was happy with the endeavour of his players to not let it affect the performance and the plan to get a result, which he spoke about prior to the game.
“Cliff pulled out injured late last night so it was an enforced change.” he said.
If you see how the group played with Michael coming in, you will dee that the principal never changed, and they equipped themselves very well and contributed.” Fullarton added.
Looking ahead to the next game, Fullerton believes that his side can take the two clean sheets that they have picked up this week into the massive game with Sutton United next weekend.
“Any time you get a point away from home and more importantly a clean sheet which is our second in a week.” Fullarton said.
“It really gathers momentum and belief and allows us to focus on the next game which is Sutton at home.” he added.
