FC Halifax Town recorded a much-needed victory over Hartlepool United in mid-week after what was a busy day of news for the Shaymen.
Goals from Nathan Hotte and Ben Tomlinson’s first Vanarama National League goal in a Town shirt helped the home side move four points clear of the drop zone, in what was described as a ‘six-pointer’.
A successful evening on the pitch ended what was a hectic day for Town, starting with the announcement of our new manager.
Former Notts County boss Jamie Fullarton was confirmed as Town’s new manager just a few hours before kick-off, before watching the Hartlepool win from the stands.
As a player, Fullarton spent a lot of his career with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren along with Crystal Palace, where he moved just a year after leaving the Buddies. Just a few years later, Fullarton suffered a serious knee injury which hampered his chances of making a return to the pitch.
He then moved on to the world of coaching, where he moved to Spain and set up his on-football academy. Costa Unida UK runs teams from under 8s to under 19 level and has seen players graduate to sign for professional clubs in both England and in Spain.
Fullarton takes over from caretaker boss Neil Young, who managed a win, draw and one defeat during his short time in charge of the Shaymen.
He had only been at the club for a few hours, but Fullarton was already involved in making a signing for Town later that evening.
With less than an hour to go before kick-off, it was announced that Town had signed Mike Fondop-Talom on loan until the end of the season from fellow National League outfit, Guiseley AFC.
The striker had been told that competition for places would become more difficult over the coming weeks, due to the Lions looking to bring in a new striker in the hope of mounting an escape from the league’s relegation places.
This freed up the chance for Fondop-Talom to search for a loan move away, and he told Shaymen TV that when Town came calling it was a no brainer for him:
“When I heard about the interest from Halifax it sounded like a good move for me, I didn’t think twice.
“My job is to score goals so that is why I am here, and my previous coaches have told me that I am good in the air, I am good technically with the ball at my feet, confident going one-on-one and that I have pace. That is what I will bring”.
Elsewhere in our league, Dover Athletic have added to their defensive options as Kevin Lokko joins the club on loan from League Two outfit Stevenage FC.
Lokko, formerly of Norwich City, joins until the end of the season having already had previous experience at this level. He featured for Dagenham and Redbridge for the first half of the season, where he made 25 appearances including one against the Shaymen at Victoria Road.
He was an unused substitute in Dover’s mid-week fixture against his former employers Dagenham, with the Whites recording a 1-0 victory as they retained their place in the paly-off spots.
