FC Halifax Town tonight beat fellow strugglers Hartlepool United 2-0 at the MBi Shay Stadium.

Second half goals from Nathan Hotte and Ben Tomlinson made sure the home side take all the spoils in this contest.

Victory over the Pools saw the Shaymen end a run of 8 games without a win and go up to 18th position, leapfrogging their opponents.

The early periods of this encounter saw Halifax have the best of the chances, with Jake Hibbsโ€™ low drilled ball from the right giving Scott Loach cause for concern early on. Unfortunately for the home side, the ball evaded everybody in the box, rolling out for a throw in.

Shaun Tuton had the ball in the back of the net just after 10 minutes, lobbing the Hartlepool goalkeeper with audacity, but the linesman had already lifted his flag for offside.

The visitors also had opportunities of their own, with Michael Woods being given the chance to strike from range following a misplaced Scott Garner headed clearance. But the effort didnโ€™t give Sam Johnson too many problems as it rolled harmlessly past his post.

The shot stopper did have a heart in the mouth moment on half an hour mark, a header following a Hartlepool throw in law the ball loop over the former Port Vale manโ€™s head, but McManus was on hand to clear away the danger.

Devante Rodney looked like he was through to change Neil Youngโ€™s team talk at the break, but a last ditch from Cliff Moyo stopped the winger having a one-on-one opportunity.

Bar two headers from Louis Lang and Jake Cassidy from Blair Adams free kicks, not a lot happened in the second half until the 70th minute.

The 73rd minute saw the first shot on target come when Hibbs steered a Moyo cross into Loachโ€™s mitts as the home side ramped up the pressure.

The pressure paid off less than a minute later when the ball landed at the feet of Nathan Hotte on the edge of the box. The resulting shot deflected off a Hartlepool defender before clipping off the post and coming to rest in the back of the net.
Hibbs would try from range less than 5 minutes later but his shot was palmed away by Loach, however, the former Ipswich Town man could do nothing when Tomlinson nodded the rebound over his head to double the home sides advantage.

The game saw the debut of new loan signing Mike Fondop-Talom, whose flicked header sent Kosylo through on goal, but he failed the pull the trigger in time.
