FC Halifax Town goalkeeper Sam Johnson looks confident going into the next match against Ebbsfleet United after holding a tough Wrexham side to just the one point over the weekend.

“I thought we were a different class, I thought we put a good shift against a side that are challenging for the top spot.”

After a positive start for the caretaker manager Neil Young, Johnson hopes they could do even better at the Shay.

“The draw against Wrexham is something to build on. It was obviously a tough game, but we got to build on that now and start getting some more points on the board, so we can steer us out of the bottom four.

“We’re going to be training hard, we’ve got Neil and he’s got some ideas about what he wants us to do and he’s put these ideas across over the past week and we’ve just got to keep working on that.”

With the ongoing speculation of Neil’s managerial role, Johnson seems confident that his new manager can help improve results.

“I think it’s down to us, we don’t know how long he’s going to be in charge for, so we’ve just got to keep doing things right on our part.

“We also need to keep taking on board what he’s going to say but I think we’ve just got keep plugging away and hopefully the results will come.”

The Fleet’s key man is Danny Kedwell who plays in the striker position. Kedwell’s season tally so far is 11 goals in 30 games but Johnson doesn’t seem phased and is confident the team have done their homework.

“We’ve just got try and keep him quiet. We’ve been doing okay at the back recently so hopefully the back four can keep them from scoring past me.”
