This week sees the start of the newly christened ‘Adam Heslop’ National League Trust U11 Cup. Calderdale primary schools will compete in qualifiers with finals taking place at North Bridge Leisure Centre across January and February. At the completion of the Halifax finals one boys’ team and one girls’ team from local schools will progress to regional competition as the representative of FC Halifax Town.

The Halifax area finals will provide the opportunity for budding football stars, specifically those in the year 6 age group to play the exciting game of Futsal, a fast moving 5-a-side game of South American origin. Should the local schools have success at the regional competitions they will go on to play at Wembley before the National League Promotion Play-off Final in May.

FC Halifax Town have partnered with Brooksbank School’s ‘Games Organisers’ to deliver the Halifax based competition. Nearly 40 school teams will be involved and that includes a school visit to teach their players the rules of Futsal.

Steve Nichol, Head of Youth, Junior and Community Football Development said: “The project is being supported with a grant awarded by The National League Trust, community sponsors RSA and FC Halifax Town.  We hope to build on the success of our previous event and continue to introduce more children to our coaching programme.”

“The community, academy and youth group at FC Halifax is currently working with over 300 players every week as part of a club training program. The ‘Match-day Experience’ package we deliver has seen over 250 attendants this season and this cup competition could engage over 1000 school children in Calderdale.”
