FC Halifax Town under 19s twice surrendered a lead as they drew 3-3 away to league leaders Guiseley AFC U19s.

First-half goals from Marco Basic and James Sunderland put Town 2-0 ahead at half-time before a fightback from Guiseley saw them level after 70 minutes.

Town thought theyโ€™d won the game when Eliel Anku reaffirmed their lead with six minutes remaining, but defender Louis Squires completed his double in the final minute to see both sides come away with a point.

The draw means that Halifax have become the first team to take points away from Guiseley this season however they also remain eight points adrift of the unbeaten league leaders with nine matches remaining.

After a scrappy start by both sides, it was Halifax who produced the first moment of quality to take the lead after 16 minutes.

Some fantastic hold-up play by Sunderland teed up Basic for a long-distance effort and the midfielder fired the ball into the bottom right corner from the edge of the area.

Five minutes later, Town were two to the good with livewire winger Ousman Cham sending in a beautiful cross for Sunderland to volley home from inside the penalty area.

The young Shaymen continued to dominate the first-half proceedings and were unlucky not be three goals ahead when a low drilled cross by Basic just evaded Liam Healey and Cham.

Guiseley were able to avoid conceding a third goal and rallied late in the half with captain Jack Lazenby striking the post from a free-kick whilst Jordan Buckham hit the side-netting late on as Town kept their 2-0 lead at the half-time break.

The hosts maintained the late first-half attacking impetus in the second period and ten minutes after the interval they pulled a goal back.

Substitute Lewis Waddington fires the ball home after Tabish Hassan beat three Halifax defenders in the penalty area.

Town looked to hit back, with George Glover and Sam Clayton both having chances, but Guiseley fought hard and drew level when a towering header by Louis Squires found the back of the net.

As the game came into its final quarter, Guiseley pressed for the winner with Hassan at the centre of their good work.

The number seven twice struck the post within a matter of three minutes as he firstly hit the woodwork after breaking away from a quick counter-attack before latching onto a long goal-kick and again hitting the upright from his left-footed effort.

However, a couple of substitutions from Halifax manager Mark Trueman inspired what seemed like it would be the winning goal as Keelan Swales and Anku combined for Townโ€™s third.

Swalesโ€™ wonderful delivery from the right side found Anku who made no mistake to fire a bullet header home for his tenth goal of the season in the 84th minute.

But, Halifax were once again unable to hold onto their lead as Squires again headed home from a corner in the final minute of the game to earn Guiseley a point.
