Matty Brown insists the point taken from FC Halifax Town’s draw at Maidenhead was a good one.
There were no goals to speak about as The Shaymen travelled down south for a second successive 0-0 draw away from home.
‘It wasn’t one for the neutrals was it?’ the captain joked while speaking to Shaymen TV.
‘The game wasn’t great, it was scrappy, it was bitty, but a typical Vanarama National League game around this time of year I suppose.
‘You look at the pitch before the game and you can tell straight away it’s going to be a leveller, it isn’t going to be a pretty game.
‘You can only look at it as a positive, we’ve come away from home to a tough place, we kept a clean sheet and got a point on the board.
‘We’ll take the point and move on, but it wasn’t a great performance.’
Despite his affirmative evaluation of the outcome, the defender was evidentially harboured some slight disappointment in some aspects of his side’s performance.
However, when weighing up the outcome alongside the season’s objective, he pointed out that it is another step in the right direction for Billy Heath’s men.
‘Before the game we were really keen to come here and get the 3 points, but if you keep a clean sheet and take a point from home you can’t really complain.
‘I think the first 10 minutes we started a little bit sloppy.
‘We gave them a few chances, stupid chances, and we weren’t happy with that but then I think we got a little bit of a grip.
‘We were going up the hill first half, we wanted to do that on purpose, so we’d be going downhill in the second half.
‘If any team did play a bit of football, it was us,’ the club captain continued.
‘I think you could say a draw was a fair result, it’s a good point to get because York Road is a hard place to come, the pitch is a bit of a leveller, let’s be honest, it’s a horrible place isn’t it?
‘It’s a good point for the end of the day, we’ll take it for the end of the season, we’re another point closer to safety, I think it’s 16 points we need now.’
The game marked a return to the starting line-up for Brown, who had missed the previous two against Dover Athletic and Macclesfield Town due to a back injury.
The Liverpudlian illustrated his desire to play and do his job for the team despite not being at peak fitness.
‘I’m still playing through a little bit of pain now, but it’s just one of those things, it’s not going anywhere so I’ve just got to manage it,’ he explained.
‘I’m not at my best, I’m probably at about 65% but the gaffer still wants me to do a job and I’m always willing to play.
‘There were certain aspects today that I wasn’t happy about, I felt I was a little bit restricted but on the whole, I’ve only missed 2 games and I’ve been in alright form, so we’ll take off where we left off.’
