Sam Johnson spoke to ShaymenTV following the goalless draw with Dover Athletic on Saturday, and believes that it was always going to be a tough game.

“We always knew it was going to be a difficult time coming here, but we have done well, we defended from back to front unbelievably well, so we are happy with a point.” Johnson said.

The shot-stopper managed to get the social media fans man of the match, probably for the crucial saves that he made to keep Town within touching distance of all three points. Johnson was happy to get it.

“It is always good to get it, made a few crucial saves in the game so it’s good.”

One moment for Johnson was in the first half when he managed to acrobatically save three shots in very quick succession in the same phase of play to keep Town a clean sheet, the third in their last four games.

“I saved the first one, and then I just tried to make myself look as big as possible, so it is about getting a bit of luck sometimes.”

After a difficult run of results, the last month has been somewhat of a turn-around for the Shaymen. The former Port Vale goalkeeper could not think what it was that was preventing them from getting results.

“We were talking about it in the dressing room, when we went on the bad run, we cannot really put our finger on what was different because we have continued to put in the performances.”

Talking about the recent clean sheets Johnson believes it can help the team get the results that they want.

“Getting clean sheets gives us the foundations to build on it and then get some positive results.”

Next up for Billy Heath’s side is the first game of 2018, home to Macclesfield Town who narrowly won the away fixture on Boxing Day. Sam Johnson told ShaymenTV that the side are full of confidence.

“Macclesfield are a good side, but It was an unlucky result on Boxing Day, we will go to that game full of confidence and hopefully turn the result around.”

You can catch Sam Johnson’s interview on ShaymenTV over the weekend.
