FC Halifax Town manager Billy Heath has lavished praise on his side’s defensive performance after they earned a 0-0 draw away to fourth placed Dover Athletic.
Halifax kept Dover scoreless despite finishing the match with ten men following the sending off of Danny Clarke as well as playing a makeshift back four due to the injury to captain Matty Brown.
Heath was delighted with his side’s backline to keep Dover, who had scored 11 times in their past 5 matches, scoreless.
“It was a good point, a really good point,” Heath told Shaymen TV. “They were very difficult to play against at times, they’re a very strong side are Dover.”
“(Michael) Duckworth came back after a long period out injured and probably should have only played 60 minutes, but that was never going to happen with the state of the squad at the minute.”
“I thought Cliff (Moyo) coming in alongside (Scott) Garner at centre half was fantastic and Josh Wilde was his usual self. I thought we thoroughly deserved a point.”
Heath singled Duckworth and Moyo out for individual praise with Duckworth featuring for the first time since August whilst Moyo played at centre back for the first time this season.
“Duckworth was outstanding,” continued Heath. “He’s a good player, a talented player and he’s got great quality and he defends well.
“He’s a forward-thinking full-back but when he had to defend today he did so really well and I was really impressed.”
“We had to move Cliff from right back to the centre half position and Cliff’s done that before at lower levels but he’s never played centre half at these higher levels.
“But, he’s come in, full of confidence, and he was magnificent. I thought him and Garner complimented each other and it looked like a good pairing.”
