Following the home defeat to Barrow at the MBi Shay Stadium last time out, FC Halifax Town now face a difficult trip to high-flyers Aldershot who sit fourth in the standings going in to the game.

The Shots are currently enjoying a spell of decent form, having won four out of their last five matches as they look to stay on the tails of the top three. It looks set to be a tough test for the Shaymen, who are in search of their first win since September.

In this section, we take a look at some of the news from around our league this week, starting with last weekend’s opponents, Barrow.

Bluebirds captain Asa Hall has described what a pretty hectic week it was for him in the run up to his side’s 1-0 victory against the Shaymen, which saw the arrival of a new addition to his family.

Substitute Jordan White scored the only goal against a Town side that were rather unlucky not to earn at least a point from the contest.

The win moved Ady Pennock’s side seven points clear of the drop zone, after what has been a positive appointment for the Bluebirds. Speaking to the National League website, Hall was delighted to end the week in the most positive way.

“It has been one of the most hectic weeks of my life, first I spent four days in hospital, my beautiful daughter was born, and then it was my birthday so to top it off with a win makes it a great week.

“Ady has come in and to be honest training has become more structured, there is a clear purpose to each session and the lads are buying into it”.

Elsewhere, Tranmere Rovers boss Micky Mellon put his side through a different kind of training session at the weekend, as Rovers took part in a boxing workout.

With their game against Woking postponed due to the FA Cup, Mellon’s side met with boxing trainer and Tranmere fan Sean Trodden in order to keep them on their toes ahead of a gruelling schedule, which sees six games in only 23 days for the Super White Army.

Speaking to the club website, Mellon said the idea behind the session was to keep the squad feeling fresh.

“With the squad, it has been maintenance work with them really, keeping them ticking over, because we have had a lot of games in a short amount of time recently. We’re still working on the players and their individual improvements as much as we can as well.

“But it’s also a case of recharging the batteries and making sure that they are physically ready as they possibly can for the Torquay game.”

Finally, a Solihull Moors academy player has been handed a big opportunity with a Sky Bet Championship club this week.

Jamie Chisholm, 16, is a first year student with the academy, and is currently away with Birmingham City on a trial period following a successful training session with the Solihull first team last week.

The centre-back is hoping to experience a similar success as those who have moved on to professional clubs this year, such as Leicester City, Birmingham City and Chesterfield.

If you cannot make it to the game against Aldershot then there will be live updates available on the club website along with live match commentary.
