Woking: A Break Can Help

FC Halifax Town defender Josh Wilde believes that the week break will have a positive impact as Town search for their first win in eight league matches when they host Woking this weekend.

After a bright start to the campaign, which saw Halifax reach as high as 2nd in the National League table, the fortunes have turned and The Shaymen now sit in 15th position.

But, Wilde believes his side have what it takes to recapture their early momentum. โ€œObviously, weโ€™ve had a bit of a sticky patch lately and sometimes a break can help you kick on from thatโ€ said Wilde.

โ€œWeโ€™ve had the week off, so itโ€™s give everybody the time to get their energy back, get a bit of confidence hopefully and it can help you re-evaluate and try and push on from.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re not really doing so well at the minute so hopefully it can be a blessing in disguise for us having this break.โ€

Despite the admittedly poor run of results, Halifax sit just four points adrift of the play-off positions and could be back in the top seven by the end of the month.

โ€œA couple of wins could put us right back up there, then your confidence is high and thatโ€™s all it takes really,โ€ continued Wilde.

โ€œBut, in the same breath, itโ€™s the same going the other way. We know that we need to get wins sooner rather than later.โ€

โ€œEverybodyโ€™s trying their best at the minute but itโ€™s just not quite happening for us. But all it takes is just a bit of magic to get that win.โ€

By trade, Wilde operates as a left-back but has been often used on the opposite flank by Billy Heath due to injuries to Cliff Moyo and Michael Duckworth.

โ€œItโ€™s difficult (playing right back),โ€ admitted the defender. โ€œItโ€™s a bit strange because obviously Iโ€™ve been playing that long, and Iโ€™ve not really played right back before.โ€

โ€œThe gaffer trusts that I can play there, and I just try and do my best. My basics are still the same in terms of defending and I just try and do that bit right because itโ€™s my job to defend.โ€

โ€œIt is always nice to get up and help support (the attack). But it does restrict me a bit because Iโ€™m not the best on my right foot.โ€

โ€œBut at the end of the day, my job is to defend so Iโ€™ve just tried to do the best I can for the team whilst we get sorted.โ€
