Josh Wilde says that FC Halifax Town need to work extremely hard as they strive to put an end to their five-game winless run at the MBi Shay Stadium on Tuesday night.
Following a 1-1 draw against Torquay United last time out, Town now have a quick turnaround before the visit of Maidstone United, a side that have shown a similar form to that of the Shaymen.
If that is anything to go by, it looks set to be an even game once the whistle blows at 7:45pm on Tuesday, and Wilde believes that hard work and determination will be the added edge of Town are to see an upturn in form.
“It will be another battle and a lot of hard work, you cannot switch off all game or else you will get punished. We will need a lot of effort and energy to help us get some more confidence to go on and take the game to them.
“The last few games we have slipped away in terms of performances. I don’t think it is because we are missing some personnel, it is just a slip in form.
“We had it last season but you always have those. If we can ride this out we can get back to playing well again. It is good that it has come so early rather than waiting another week to put it right”.
After a long period of time without a win, Wilde knows that it is natural for heads to drop in the dressing room. However, with the leadership of Billy Heath and targets in place, Wilde is aware of what needs to be done to move forward.
“He was obviously disappointed and pretty much said everything that we already knew… We know we need to put it right now. I think there has been a dip in confidence in everyone at the minute, and it just takes a good result and performance to get that back.
“Hopefully, we can be confident in ourselves on Tuesday and get the win. If we do that it bodes well and pushes us onto Tranmere on Saturday”.
The draw against Torquay was a difficult one for both sides, with the visitors looking for just their second win of the season so far. In the end, despite George Waring’s debut goal for Town, the spoils were to be shared, a result that Wilde believes was the fair one.
“We were not good enough as a team. On the day, I do not think we deserved to win the game either, the result was probably the right one. It was disappointing because we wanted to get back to winning ways at home, but it was just one of those things.
“… I do not think we played well at all, but thankfully we have got Tuesday to put it right. All of us need to do a bit more than what we were doing. Although we got the draw so you have to look at the positives if you can”.
