Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Today sees the visit of Torquay United – supporters of who will be halfway through a 600 mile round trip. Games like this serve well to remind us exactly how far many fans have to travel during a typical Vanarama National League season.

I always enjoy the โ€œtravellersโ€™ talesโ€ on the FCHT official website. The away-day articles conclude with an up to date figure for miles actually travelled on the road, and a quick glance tells us that our eight away matches to date have consumed 2702 miles! With half of the clubs we play being based in the South East of the country, that figure will rise significantly, a costly experience for team and supporters alike.

Even more important than that the Supporters Club should help by fundraising in our own way. Apart from the many FCHT Commercial opportunities, regular readers of these notes should be aware of the Supporters Club initiatives, which include bucket collections, programme stall, goal-o-meter and play the squares. Each of these generates a contribution to the Clubโ€™s running costs. All have been featured in recent versions of these notes, and will be explained again in the near future.

We mustnโ€™t forget, of course that we also need to satisfy the social needs of our fans. In this respect, I should remind you of the forthcoming Night at the Dogs (November 25th) and the Supporters Club match sponsorship (March 3rd v Sutton United).

Before this, a more pressing need is to give another plug for our Football Quiz Night, which takes place this coming Thursday. Dave Crossley will again be quizmaster, and the venue is the Flying Dutchman in Boothtown. Under 18s are welcome to attend accompanied by one or more adults. Thanks go to John Chew for the use of his pub for this ever popular event.

See you soon Kit.
