As the Shaymen exited the FA Cup last time out following a 3-1 home defeat to Tranmere Rovers, it is time once again to focus on the Vanarama National League Campaign, with Torquay United the visitors on Saturday.
The Gulls come into the game propping up the table on seven points, having won just one of their last five games. As for the Shaymen, it’s a similar story, although displaying just the two losses rather than Torquay’s three.
Here we look at the news stories from around our league, starting with a manager casualty just fifteen games into the season.
Micky Moore, who oversaw Barrow for eleven games, only recorded one win leaving the Bluebirds hovering just one point above Chester in the final relegation spot. Moore’s most recent result came in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round, a defeat to Shaw Lane of the Evo-Stik Premier division.
On Moore’s dismissal, Chairman Paul Casson told the club website: “I would like to thank Micky for all his efforts both as assistant manager and as manager.
“We are all disappointed that it has not worked out, Micky inherited a difficult situation and he gave his all towards it. I wish him the best of luck for his future career”.
Assistant manager Neil Hornby will take over until a new manager is appointed.
Moving on, and Ebbsfleet United have announced that Stonebridge Road is to be re-named due to the club agreeing a five-year deal with company Kuflink for naming rights.
The Fleet will now play at the Kuflink Stadium, with Chairman Peter Varney saying the club are happy to join forces with the Gravesend based, peer-to-peer lending business:
“We are very excited to be entering into a five-year commitment with Kuflink. I would like to thank all of the team at Kuflink for the confidence they have shown in the club by entering into a long-term agreement and all of us look forward to working with them on a range of community and commercial initiatives”.
And finally, the draw for the First Round Proper was made on Monday night, followed by a bunch of Fourth Qualifying Round replays involving seven of our league rivals.
Wins for Bromley, Woking, Ebbsfleet, Maidstone United, Leyton Orient and Solihull Moors means that they progress to the First Round, with Dagenham and Redbridge and Dover Athletic exiting following defeats Leyton Orient and Bromley respectively.
With these results, it means that there are sixteen representatives from our league, the most intriguing tie arguably being Tranmere’s trip to League One outfit Peterborough United, which would have been Town’s reward had the result been more positive.
The ties for the first round are due to be played over the weekend of the fourth and fifth of November, with the prize being a place in the second round of the competition.
