After a convincing 4-1 victory for FC Halifax Town U19โ€™s in the FA Youth Cup 2nd qualifying round, the head coach Mark Trueman believed that his side have done well considering it is only their third game of the season.

“It was only our third game of the season. The lads have done well and put in a professional performance in the sense that the lads seen it through and managed the game until the end.”

Trueman believes that his side had to change the game plan slightly to cope with the pressure that the away side put them under and to prevent them from getting into the game in the second half.

“They put us under pressure second half and did not give us any respect to play, in the second half especially. They kept on pressing us, so we needed to change our game plan a little bit. Overall, I’m pleased with how they performed and we learn and keep building for the next game.”

The Head Coach spoke about his side coming back into preseason before most clubs due to the good amount and standard of youth staff at the club and he also said that it has paid off.

“We have had a long preseason. We start a little bit earlier than most clubs in our league. We have a good team of staff in the youth team. It paid off today because they kept going right to the end.”

Trueman on the young products:

“My goal and Steve’s goal at the club is to hopefully get players into the first team and beyond if possible. We have some good young lads and hopefully into the first team squad.”

A good team goal for the third of the evening seen Anku complete a wonderful hat-trick, Trueman spoke about his goal and how the team were part of it.

“Yeah I thought it was a great strike. I thought it was a great goal, the way we played it out from the back and it was a great finish.

Ells has done well. He is a second year so in his first year he was not around this squad. It was his first game in the FA Youth Cup. His hold up play was good as well which I was happy with.ย  He has taken his goals well but his all-round performance was good today.”

Jack Atkinson, the goalkeeper did well and came up with the saves when he was needed to for the majority of the game. Trueman speaks about his man between the sticks and believes he had a good game even though it was not one of his best performances.

“Yeah, Jack is a good player. He would probably say himself, it was not one of his best games, but he has made some good saves at crucial times and kept us within that two-goal cushion. Jack will learn from his mistakes today as I’m sure they all will because they are young. Jack will be one of our stronger players this season.

Yeah, he is good with his feet. He trains with the first team which does his confidence the world of good too.”

FC Halifax Town youth go on now to Wednesday when they play Darlington at home where they will be looking for their third consecutive victory in allย competitions

“We will build on it, go and look at the video analysis and then go again on Wednesday which is our next game in the league. We are in the hat for the next round so we will see who we have and prepare right for that.”
