FC Halifax Town maintained their strong home form but were held to a goalless draw by Wrexham at The MBi Shay Stadium.

Striker Tom Denton had the best Halifax’s chances as he saw a goal ruled out for offside as well as seeing a couple of chances missed.

Town are now undefeated in their last five matches on home soil and may be prove to be a valuable point with Wrexham yet to suffer defeat in their last eight league matches.

It was a nervy start to the game by both sides but it would be Halifax who would have the best opportunity of the opening quarter. Adam Morgan beautifully connected with Tom Denton’s flick-on but saw his stunning half-volley well saved by goalkeeper Luke Coddington to his left-hand side.

The chances were few and far between although Wrexham did threaten Town’s goal when a well-taken free-kick from James Jennings 20 yards out forced Sam Johnson into a quality save.

Both Town and Wrexham exchanged long-range efforts in the dying minutes of the half, leaving the match goalless at the half-time break. Morgan fired wide from 30 yards out whilst off-balance before Wrexham’s Chris Holroyd put a shot well over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

Wrexham started the half as by far the brighter side in the second-period and could easily have taken a strong lead had they been more clinical in front of goal.

Holroyd shot straight at Johnson after a Wrexham counter-attack before Alex Reid slipped during his shot on goal having been sent in behind the Town defence from Mark Carrington’s through ball past Matty Brown.

After the hour mark, Town began to weather Wrexham’s early second-half pressure and thought they had gone ahead when Tom Denton tapped in at the far post from Morgan’s miss-cued shot, only for the assistant referee to rule for offside against the striker.

The chances for both sides dried up until the final five minutes when a late surge from Town almost saw them snatch the elusive opener.

Denton saw a header deflect wide from a corner and from the following set-piece Town’s number nine once again headed towards goal only to see it cleared.

Town continued to prove an aerial threat when substitute Ben Tomlinson forced Coddington into tipping the ball over his bar before Matty Kosylo missed a good chance when he fired over Morgan’s deep low cross from the edge of the penalty area.
