After getting back to winning ways on Saturday through the visit of Bromley FC at the MBi Shay Stadium, FC Halifax Town will be hoping to repeat this success as they make the long journey south to Ebbsfleet United.
The last trip away from home saw the Shaymen lose their unbeaten away run at the hands of Dagenham and Redbridge, the sixth away journey of the season so far.
Now, with the seventh fast approaching, Town take on the Fleet, as we look at some of the news from around the Vanarama National League. Firstly, we start with last week’s opponents, Bromley.
The Greater London outfit have been selected to take part in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Premier League strugglers, Crystal Palace. Palace have not won a game so far in England’s top flight, and have drafted in former England manager Roy Hodgson to try turn their fortunes around.
Part of this process seems to be a midweek friendly, as Bromley themselves will look to make an improvement on their defeat to the Shaymen last time out. As the home side held on to their 2-1 win with ten men, Bromley boss described the score line as “the correct result”.
Next up, there is another Shaymen connection as Neil Aspin’s Gateshead have been unsuccessful after appealing for Theo Vassell’s red card to be rescinded.
The defender was sent off following a bad challenge in the first half of the Heed’s game against Maidstone United last weekend.
Arguably one of Gateshead’s standout performers this season, Vassell will now serve a one match suspension, ruling him out of Saturday’s game against Boreham Wood following the FA’s decision on Monday.
Town’s West Yorkshire neighbours Guiseley have this week been told by manager Paul Cox that they “need to start winning soon”, after four successive draws in the National League.
In their most recent fixture, the Lions managed to come back from 1-0 down in the first half against Dover Athletic, as John Rooney’s free kick sealed the point in the end. Despite his stern words as mentioned earlier, Cox told the club website that he was still happy with his side’s performances:
“We are moving in the right direction, defensively we look much improved and the lads are learning from each match, we would have liked to have won but it was probably a fair point.
“That is the aim now to win the next match, again though, we looked a threat going forward and solid at the back so I’m happy”.
And finally, Wycombe Wanderers centre-back Will de Havilland has re-joined Aldershot Town after recovering from a knee injury. Havilland, who initially joined the Shots on loan before the start of the season, picked up the injury against Chester back in August.
Since his recovery has progressed well, the 22-year-old has been allowed to return on another loan deal, this time running until 13th November, meaning he is available for up to a further ten games.
