Despite being reduced to ten men before half time, Matt Brown praised his team mates after they put in, what he feels, was one of their finest games yet.
The Shaymen could see off Bromley 2-1 thanks to goals from Matt Kosylo and Tom Denton, after Scott Garner was sent off following an aerial duel with Brett Williams.
โWeโve shown it thousands of times, time and time again, when times get hard we roll our sleeves up and stick together and we got the job done today,โ the captain said, standing alongside the match winner Denton.
โWe started really well in the first half, it was probably the best performance we have put in overall.
โWe got the ball up to Dave [Tom Denton] early and had runners off him, and we caused problems in the first half.
โI still thought we were dangerous while down to ten men, but we had our backs against the wall, and it just goes to show character.โ
The defender also assessed the performance of match official, Joseph Johnson, whose decisions left home fans and players alike scratching their heads.
โIโm not one to blame referees, but I think he had a poor game today,โ Brown began.
โGarns [Scott Garner] hasnโt got that in his locker, heโs a tough competitor but he hasnโt got any dirtiness in his game.
โThe referee has got that decision wrong and it has changed the flow of the game.โ
The former Chester man almost gave Billy Heathโs men the lead midway through the first half. However, his header was judged to have been saved by David Gregory, despite protests from those in blue that the ball had crossed the line.
โI thought it was a goal at the time, and a few of the lads have said so as well, but itโs one of them, isnโt it?
โEven if it did I didnโt expect the ref to get it today anyway.โ
The numerical advantage was never taken by the visitors, as FC Halifax Town looked like the more threatening of the two sides from kick off.
It was a result that didnโt come as a surprise in the dressing room, according to Denton.
โWe said at half time we fancied ourselves to win the game anyway, like Browny [Matt Brown] said, we battered them first half,โ the striker said.
โWe got 8 or 9 corners and then in the second half we got an early one, kicked on and got the winner at the end.
He and Kosylo both notched their fifth goals of the season in the encounter although they had to lead the line by themselves for most of the game.
โIt is difficult but you have got to do the job for the team,โ the 6-foot 7 man said.
โWeโve got ten men on the pitch and weโve just got to grind out the result, and weโve gone one upfront in the end and it has worked.
โItโs three points and third or fourth in the league so weโll take that.
