With FC Halifax Town, still in the play-off positions, only a point separates them from the top. Here’s what the other teams are up to this week.
Sixth placed Wrexham have received praise in a Telegraph article. The national newspaper investigated on Premier League clubs who haven’t met minimum standards for disabled fans. The work being done at Wrexham was praised by Lord Chris Holmes of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission and contrasted that to the Premier League, as much for our attitude to change, as to our actual work undertaken. “It is about attitude, values, culture and approach,” said Lord Holmes. “There has been very positive action by some Premier League clubs and some incredible actions by clubs like Wrexham and Tranmere. Next is 13th placed Maidstone United, last week they announced that the Stones’ home ground will be segregated between the home and away fans. Their next game against Gateshead will be the first to instigate this new rule and will continue to do so for the remaining home fixtures in all competitions.
In other news, 16th placed Eastleigh have parted with Lee Peacock who has now joined Swindon Town. After retiring from football Lee took on an off-the field role as Head of Youth Development. He oversaw their successful scholarship scheme where several players have gone on to gain a first team contract. Lee will be joining Swindon as their new of Head of Coaching.
Now onto 18th placed Barrow who have yet to decide on the future of their first team coach, Paul Ogden. Managing Director, Andrew Casson, has stated that Ogden “has not left the club” and the club are yet to decide within the next 72 hours. Casson also stated that the club will be expecting “several new faces” over the coming weeks, they will also be looking for a seasoned strength and conditioning coach to help develop the players.
Finally, Torquay United – who sit at the bottom of the league table – have announced the signing of striker Rhys Murphy on a three-month loan deal from Forrest Green Rovers. Murphy, 26, spent part of his youth career with Arsenal, before signing a pro contract in 2009. Loan spells with Brentford and Port Vale followed before he moved to Dutch side Telstar. Murphy found his best form with Forest Green Rovers before joining York City and Crawley Town on loan. Murphy played for England up to U19 level and he was a part of the U19s team that got to the final of the European Championships. Murphy is anticipated to feature in this weekend’s fixture as Torquay host Macclesfield.
