Matty Brown says they were no excuses following the sides disappointing 3-1 result away at Dagenham, especially considering the superb display at Leyton Orient on the Tuesday.
The Shaymen trailed 3-0 at half time and Brown believes that starting games poorly like this is only going to make challenging work of these already tough fixtures.
“We’ve killed ourselves today, obviously we’ve tried to get back into the game but when you start the game like that, the game’s done at half time”
“It was disappointing”
Regardless of the two long trips in the space of less than a week, the defender refuses to blame the result on fatigue or lack of training in the build up to the game.
“That’s not an excuse, everybody’s got to do it. It’s not an excuse for the way we started today. It was harder on Tuesday night to go down, we’ve had the perfect preparation, we’ve come down the night before, we’ve done everything right there’s no excuses.”
“We just weren’t there today, it happens”
The home side were very impressive and Halifax struggled to create anything significant in the first half however the team came out fighting and got the goal in the second half to put pressure on the game.
Although the first half deficit was too much, Brown believes there were aspects to take from the game moving forward.
“Even in the first half you’ve got to think about the positives, you’ve got to learn quickly, we can’t switch off or good teams will score against you.”
Brown scored the only goal for Halifax with a superb directed header into the top right corner from an Oliver free kick and although he was pleased with his effort, as any typical defender he is disappointed in the defensive efforts in this game.
“Yeah obviously it’s a bonus, as a defender a prefer a clean sheet and the performance rather than goals but it’s always nice to chip in”
This result ended the side’s unbeaten run of six games and sees Town drop from 2nd to 8th, however the Shaymen are only two points off the top after their superb run in the last few weeks.
A good result against 6th placed Bromley will set a real statement of intent from the team and Brown is ready to shake this game off and push again.
“This is going to happen all the time at this level you’re going to get beat by good teams you’ve just got to bounce back especially when you’re going on an excellent run.”
“The lads we’ve got in the dressing room, we’re all disappointed but we’re hoping we can get a good reaction on Saturday against Bromley”
The side are finally back at the MBi Shay Stadium on Saturday and will be hoping the home crowd will really get behind the lads as we look to kick on another solid run to keep up the pressure this season.
