Man-of-the-match Matty Kosylo has said that there is momentum within the FC Halifax Town squad after a 3-2 victory over Maidenhead United saw The Shaymen make it five matches unbeaten and move up to sixth in the Vanarama National League table.

Kosylo scored twice in the second half on his return to the side from suspension with Adam Morgan netting the opener for Town in the first 45 minutes.

Victory over National League South champions Maidenhead gives Halifax their fourth win in their last five matches and Kosylo believes that Town have gained belief after a slow start to the campaign.

“Yeah, we’ve got momentum,” Kosylo told ShaymenTV, “and we just need to keep working hard because that’s the key to it.”

“I think there was a little bit of doubt at the beginning (of the season), I’m not sure why. Maybe we were listening to people’s predictions that we might struggle and we might find it difficult.

“But we look like we’ve settled, the back four are solid, even though we’ve had to have people filling in in positions they don’t play. Josh Wilde was class today, Scott McManus has come back in as normal at left back and he’s been class.”

Kosylo admitted that he was slightly fortunate with his first goal but put his second strike down to pure instinct. “The first one was a bit fluky”, conceded Kosylo, but listen if you don’t shoot you’re going to score and I’ll claim that one all day.”

“The second one was instinct, just instinct honestly. As you get older you start to think about things a little bit more, but I’ve been like that since I was young, since I was 15.”

“Listen, I just do it and if it comes off, it comes off. I know I can do it, that’s why I have a go at it. I do it in training, I do it in games and that’s me as a player so I’ll continue to do that.”

Town conceded two goals in the final 11 minutes of the game as their 3-0 lead slipped to just a goal advantage and Kosylo says he’s disappointed that the side couldn’t keep a clean.

Kosylo said “listen, you never know when goal difference could come into play at the end of the season, whether it be for relegation or for the play-offs, so we want to keep as many clean sheets as possible. We sat on the bench and a few of the lads are disappointed.”

“I know Browny will be disappointed because he loves clean sheets and Garns and Sam, because Sam has pulled off quite a number of unbelievable saves today. So we’re disappointed not to get the clean sheet, but like I said a win’s a win and the three points are on the board.”

“Yeah, I think we made hard work of it at the end. It was disappointing not to get the clean sheet because we’ve prided ourselves on that this season. But a win’s a win.”
