Good afternoon, and welcome to you all. Back to regular hours today, Iโm pleased to say. Many thanks to fellow Committee member Phil Knott, who covered my bucket collection duty last week; heโs transferred to the East Stand today, similarly covering for Roger Bottomley (who is unavoidably absent).
I enjoyed the Supporters Club AGM last week, particularly the debate between Bobby Ham and Stuart Peacock concerning standards of refereeing in the National League (see me for details). It was also fascinating to look back at the 2016 AGM minutes, and realise my Chairmanโs address for this year was almost a replica of last yearโs offering. It struck me we need to start making progress on finding new Committee members (although thankfully Phil has joined), and on developing a โpackageโ to make membership more attractive.
Yet again, none of the perpetual โsnipersโ from the message board attended. I suppose thereโs little point in asking questions if you believe the people answering are all compulsive liars! Actually, I assume the people concerned stay away because they simply donโt wish to know the answers – if you think about it thereโd be nothing left to snipe about, would there?
Last week, I promised that today I would let you know the date of our forthcoming trip to the dogs. Although itโs not yet finalised, we have narrowed it down to two possible Saturdays in November, namely the 11th or 25th. Iโll come back to you when we have a definite decision there, but in the meantime I can confirm the next quiz night date as Thursday October 26th. Dave Crossley will again be quizmaster, and the venue is the popular Flying Dutchman in Boothtown. Thanks go to John Chew for the use of his pub; itโs nice that John and others can be relied on to give us support when we need it.
