Guiseley: We Deserved To Win The Game

FC Halifax Town boss Billy Heath has said he is delighted with the way his side handled the game as the Shaymen made it two wins in a row in the Vanarama National League.

A West Yorkshire derby was on show for those at the MBi Shay Stadium, and watching at home on BT Sport, as a superb goal from Matty Kosylo and a second from Captain Matty Brown saw Town run out victorious over local rivals Guiseley.

The Shaymen were the brighter of the two sides overall, but especially in the first half. As both teams grew into the game, it was the home side who saw the most chances. Adam Morgan, starting for the second game in a row, fired over twice in what was to be a warning for the visitors.

In the end, it was Kosylo who bagged the opener, and what a goal it was. Dancing through four Guiseley players, the winger unleashed a stunner that Joe Green could only watch fly by him. It took most of the crowd by surprise, although Heath knows this is a quality that Kosylo possess.

โ€œHe has got that in his locker, we saw it last season and we will see it more this season. It has just been unfortunate for him over the past five games because he has seen his runs and shots blocked.

โ€œHe is an exciting breed because he runs with the ball and dribbles well. Players nowadays usually knock it and race on or play one twoโ€™s. Kozzy dribbles more with the ball and it came at the right time for us because we had just started to get the upper handโ€.

A slow start into the second half saw Guiseley pile on the pressure, before Brownโ€™s bullet header following a Town corner effectively finished the game off for the home side. For Heath, it was great to see that the hard work on the training ground paid off.

โ€œโ€ฆ In the first ten minutes (of the second half) we were a bit slow out of the traps but we grew into the game and it was nice for us to get the goal from the set piece. We worked hard this week on the set pieces and corners and trying to get a bit more out of them.

โ€œIt was a great header form Brown because he still had a lot to do, but we got him free and it was a great finishโ€.

In the end, it was a great result for the Shaymen faithful, whether they were in the stadium or watching from the comfort of their own homes. Even for the neutrals watching on BT Sport it was certainly entertaining, with the result perfectly reflecting the game, according to Heath.

โ€œWe definitely deserved to win the game. They had little spells and came out well, playing some balls in and around our box. Once we got the goal through Kosylo I thought we could have seen the game off then.

โ€œWe had three or four really good chances to get the second one (in the first half). I donโ€™t think anyone could say we didnโ€™t deserve to win the game. When teams do have a little spell against us we work hard and try not to panic.

โ€œWe keep our defensive unit, our shape and I think that was the pleasing thing today. We kept the shape really well even when they had their spells and kept the ballโ€ฆ from the front to the back, we looked a solid unitโ€.
