It Was A Gritty Game

FC Halifax Town are up and running in the first flight of non-league football after a hard-earned draw away to Barrow. The Shaymen had to dig deep to get the result they hope will kick start their season. It was a gritty game that was highly contested as both teams contested in a goal less draw.

Player Scott Garner was very proud of the team resilience. โ€œItโ€™s nice to get on the board I think it is a display to be proud of especially defensively, I think as a team weโ€™ve defended very wellโ€. From the outside looking on it felt like Halifax was under pressure from Barrow in that first half but that is not how the players felt.

“We have to defend a lot we know that but at the same time we were quite comfortable. We are a good solid unit we get around each other, we have got the players to attack teams and get goalsโ€ Garner said. It was important for Halifax to get the season going. โ€œWe are on the board now and look forward to next game to hopefully get all 3 pointsโ€. Garner and the rest of the team are hoping to use this as a springboard for them for the next game.

Manager Billy Heath echoed Scott Garner praises of the team and feels the result is a good one for the team. โ€œIt is always hard earned when you come here tough place to come, they are a physical team that asks a lot of questions about you. We started the game okay, in the last 25 mins of the first half the pressure built and it was massively important that we stayed in the gameโ€.

The team lost Martin Riley early in the game which thrown the managers game plan out the window. โ€œwe have a decision to make when you come here because they are so physically big, you have to have that physicality in your team. To lose him early it unsettled us for a whileโ€. Riley was brought in to add that physical presence and to compete with Barrowโ€™s physicality.

โ€œWe have made changes tonight and we may make changes in the next game it is a squad gameโ€ Heath said. A point at Barrow now they look to the Chester game this Saturday. โ€œIt is another game they are all big, they are all really competitive games. First point on the board we get three on Saturday we will all be happyโ€.
