FC Halifax striker Tom Denton has praised his side’s performance, after Town gained their third clean sheet in a row with a 3-0 victory over North Ferriby United.

The match, played on Monday night, was a quick turnaround following last weekend’s goalless draw with Carlisle United, although there were no signs of fatigue. Birthday boy Denton opened the scoring just over twenty minutes in, and from then on the away side had control.

Matty Kosylo and Bohan Dixon’s first goal for the club gave Town a comfortable victory against the former Vanarama National League side, leaving Denton rather pleased with this year’s birthday in East Yorkshire.

“It was a good performance I think, especially after (playing) Saturday then coming here on a Monday night. In the end it was a good 3-0 win.”
Denton’s goal was finished with the look of man bursting with confidence.

Peeling away from the Ferriby defence, Denton struck low on the edge of the box to add to his pre-season goal tally.

It was a big night for frontman, with his birthday and return to former club North Ferriby all wrapped into one game. The goal felt like a fitting present, you could say, although Denton was just happy to help out his teammates.

“I just managed to get in behind there and hit the ball early into the corner. It has gone in for me nicely and just set us off on the way.

“It is obviously nice to score because I did not score in last pre-season until the final game, then I got a hat-trick in the first game. I always say that I try to save them for the start of the season but it is always nice to score in a good win tonight.

“You always go to other former clubs but it is nice to come back here, see a few old faces and then move on.”

With the goals coming slightly earlier than they did last time around, Denton is showing his eagerness to get the new season underway. He has come under a lot of praise from manager Billy Heath so far, especially regarding his fitness levels.

“He keeps telling me that (I look fitter). I feel fit and I have done two lots of 90 minutes now along with some other minutes so I’m feeling fit, sharp and ready to go.”

Just one more game now stands between Town and the start of the National League campaign, the behind closed doors clash against Bradford City.

“It’s a different game, tonight is gone now so we will move forward for training on Thursday and look forward to Bradford on Saturday.”

The Bradford game is destined to be an interesting one. Another test against football league opposition as well as the behind closed doors factor will certainly play on the minds of the Shaymen dressing room.

It will be eerily quiet without the roar of the South Stand behind them, although Denton says that it is something they cannot dwell on too much.

“It’s disappointing I would have thought, for the fans especially. It would have been nice to see us (play) before the first game but we have just got to get on with it now and get ready for the first game of the season on the fifth of August.”
