A lethal finish from Sam Walker ensured FC Halifax Town took all three points they beat Lincoln City 1-0 at Sincil Bank.

Perhaps more impressive for Town was the fact that they were able to keep their first league clean sheet in over 30 attempts, finally putting an end to the leaky defence that has haunted them since the back end of last season.

The victory was huge for The Shaymen as they moved to within four points of safety as they continued their superb unbeaten start to life under Jim Harvey, which now stretches to six games without defeat.

The first half saw neither side able to create anything clear-cut. Former Town player Jack Muldoon saw the best of the action, having a handful of half chances well saved by Sam Johnson, also narrowly missing with an effort from the edge of the box.

At the other end, Town struggled to threaten the Lincoln goal in the first 45. Kingsley James missed a decent chance after he was played through on goal by Tuton, his effort prodded just wide of the goal.

Other than that, an easily saved Connor Hughes strike from range was the only Shaymen chance of note.

After the second half begun, the game came to life.

An end to end start to the second 45 saw plenty of chances for both sides.

Hawkridge saw an effort blocked away in the early goings of the second period before Nicky Wroe attempted to repeat his Tranmere heroics, seeing a long range effort blazed well over the bar.

10 minutes into the second half, The Imps begun to dominate, creating a handful of decent chances.

A huge scramble in the Halifax area saw the ball eventually fall to Craig Reid who swung his left foot at it, only to see his effort drift wide.

Reid has another chance to open the scoring just moments later. Matt Rhead nodded the ball down to him on the edge of the box but he couldn’t keep his effort down and it flew harmlessly over the top.

Just moments later and Rhead had the ball in the back of the net, only for the whistle to go for an earlier foul on a Town defender.

After another couple of half chances for the home side it was The Shaymen who broke the deadlock.

A long ball was floated up to Bencherif who nodded the ball into the box. Rushing into the area was Sam Walker who rifled the ball beyond Paul Farman at his near post to send the away fans wild.

It was a superb strike well worthy of winning the game, his fourth of the season in all competitions.

Despite having taken the lead, Town kept the pressure on, boxing the home side in at times and ensuring they weren’t able to come forward.

Second half substitute Shaquille McDonald may have been disappointed not to add to his debut goal against Tamworth when he saw his left footed strike well saved by Farman.

Kevin Roberts should have sealed the victory with five minutes of regulation time left to play. Excellent work from Wroe on the right saw some space open up for him, he pulled the ball back to the number 15 whose left-footed effort was weak and easily saved by Farman.

Town did well to hold on for that all important clean sheet when the board went up showing that five minutes would be added on at the end of the match. They restricted The Imps to a handful of half chances that they failed to take.

The win is another huge step forward for The Shaymen who continue to dig themselves out of trouble.
